  1. ST-Keep Command Descriptions

  4. Message System

  7. ST-Keep is organized into various ROOMS.  Each room has messages
  8. regarding a specific topic of discussion and file format.  A room
  9. prompt ends with a ">" or a "]".  The later designates a file directory
  10. room.  You can type [?] at any prompt to see a list of available
  11. commands.
  12.  
  13. If you wish to enter/post a message in the current topic room that you
  14. are in, simply type [E] for "Enter Message" and the BBS will give you
  15. a message header with the date and time along with your name as the
  16. author.  After that, just start typing away as if in a word processor
  17. without hitting any RETURNs at the end of your line, since ST-Keep
  18. will format the message to your screen width.  If you are done with
  19. your message, hit RETURN twice in a row.  You will be given an "Edit
  20. Command:" prompt where you can also type [?].  Here you can [S]ave the
  21. message or [A]bort, [R]eplace string searching from the end of your
  22. message or [F]orward replace beginning from the start of your message. 
  23. If you use one of the last two commands, simply type in the word,
  24. words, or phrases that you wish to edit, type RETURN, then the BBS
  25. will prompt you for a "Replace String:" and you should type in the
  26. word, words, or phrase you wish to correct it with.  Experiment with
  27. these commands until you feel comfortable.

  29. If you wish to read the NEW messages in this room since your last
  30. call, simply press [N] and the BBS will display all the new messages
  31. in that room.  Whenever reading text, press [P] or [CONTROL-S] to
  32. pause the display (then any key to resume) or press [S] or [CONTROL-C]
  33. to stop the text and go back to the prompt.  You can also read
  34. [F]orward starting from the first message in the room, or read
  35. [R]everse starting with the last message in the room.

  37. If you are not interested in reading the messages in this room at the
  38. current time, just type [S] to SKIP the room and the BBS will keep any
  39. new messages in that room for you the next time you call.
  40.  
  41. After you read all the new messages in that room and enter any
  42. messages you planned on, type [G] in order to GOTO the NEXT ROOM with
  43. NEW messages.  The BBS will automatically find another room with new
  44. messages since your last call, in which case you will want to start
  45. the cycle over starting with [N] to read the new messages.

  47. After you read all of the new messages in the rooms since your last
  48. call, the BBS will take you back to the Lobby and it will show the
  49. total number of messages without any NEW messages (since you've
  50. already read them), now you can terminate your connection or use some
  51. of the other commands (like [C] to chat with the sysop!)

  53. File Transfers

  56. If you are in a room that ends with a "]", that means there are files
  57. available for you to download, or there is room for you to upload. 
  58. Keep in mind that the files in this directory will be related to the
  59. roomname.  If you wish to view the directory, type [1][RETURN] or
  60. [.][R][D][RETURN] and you will be given a list of all the files in the
  61. room along with their byte size.  If you wish to view descriptions
  62. along with the filenames, type [2][RETURN] or [.][R][E][RETURN] and
  63. the BBS will show you descriptions with the filenames.

  65. In place of the [RETURN] option above, you can type in a filename, or 
  66. partial filename, including the use of wildcards (* or ?).  This 
  67. allows you to search for a specific file instead of listing the whole 
  68. directory contents.
  69.  
  70. When you know the name of the file you wish to download, simply type 
  71. [D] at the room prompt, the BBS will then prompt you for a 
  72. "Filename:" after which type in the complete filename you wish to 
  73. receive.  The BBS will use your default transfer protocol (set up 
  74. with [X] at the room prompt, then use [I]) and give you one more 
  75. yes/no prompt so you can advise when you are ready.  After typing
  76. [Y]es, simply tell your telecommunications software to download with
  77. the same protocol, and you're set.

  79. Uploading is a little easier, you don't need to get a file directory, 
  80. just go to the room topic that matches your file.  Type [U] and the 
  81. BBS will prompt you for a filename to upload.  Enter the filename and 
  82. tell your telelcom program to send the file with your default 
  83. protocol.  Some BBSs may place all uploads in one room so that the 
  84. sysop can validate the files and then move them to the appropriate 
  85. area.

  87. Help Files

  90. At any room prompt you may type [H] and you'll be shown a list of help
  91. files availalble.  When you know what file you wish to view, simply
  92. type the name of the file and ST-Keep will print the text to your 
  93. screen.  You can capture this if you wish for later use.

  98. When you are ready to leave ST-Keep, type [T] and answer yes to the 
  99. prompt.  The BBS will save your user data until so that is is
  100. available on your next call.
